We are
one big family
We are a 100% private company since we began, representing one of Spain’s largest family-run companies with Cantabrian origin and international presence.
Through our 18 companies we meet the needs of very diverse sectors, but which complement each other: packaging, containers, agriculture, geosynthetics, forestry, wood, logistics and renewable energy. The Álvarez family is also the owner of the Sardinero Hoteles Group, comprising four hotels in Santander and Madrid.
We have chosen a circular economy model that will guarantee sustainable growth over time, promoting resource optimization, reducing the use of raw materials and converting waste products into resources by recycling, giving them new life. This will allow us to continue to grow in the markets where we participate, while at the same time contributing with our activity to building a more inclusive, fair and sustainable society.
Our position was made possible today thanks to the permanent reinvestment of profits and to a team of over 2500 people who are committed to the corporate project and to the owner family. The values and the example set by the founder, Mr. Armando Álvarez, are maintained by the third generation of the family joining the Group, guided by its chairman, Mr. José Ramón Álvarez.
We were born as a small family business, and we have evolved over time to become a leading international group.
Our
History
A story of family, teamwork and hard work.
In the early 1950s, Mr. Armando Álvarez Villanueva started out in the forestry business with a small woodworking business in Torrelavega (Cantabria). A few years later he began forestry operations and manufacturing wooden packaging, later adding the manufacture of metal containers.
In 1964 he founded Aspla (Plásticos Españoles, S.A.), which was the first plastics conversion company of the current Armando Alvarez Group.
Mr. Armando’s vision, focused on innovation in an emerging market, along with the support from a professional and hard-working team, who were committed to the corporate project and to the family, led to a rapid expansion beyond the Cantabrian region in 1977, with the creation and acquisition of multiple companies that complemented the main business line. This growth was strongly boosted by sales abroad, and in 2014 we consolidated our international presence with the acquisition of SPR, in Texas, United States.
The Armando Alvarez Group is currently a reference in the sector in Europe and worldwide. Our solutions reach clients in over 115 countries and our turnover is close to €1,4 billion.
